Erasmus+ support to Ukraine: four years of solidarity and action

Four years into Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, the Erasmus+ Programme continues to provide substantial support to ensure the continuity of learning and strengthen the resilience of Ukraine’s education system.

Since the start of the war, over €208 million has been mobilised to support the education, training, youth and sport sectors in Ukraine and across Europe. More than 52,000 Ukrainians have benefited from Erasmus+ mobility, enabling students and staff to continue their studies and professional activities, maintain academic cooperation with European partners, and prepare for Ukraine’s recovery and EU integration.

Beyond mobility, Erasmus+ has addressed urgent needs on the ground. Over 1.5 million textbooks have been printed and distributed to ensure access to essential learning materials. Since 2023, a dedicated priority has supported projects responding to the consequences of the war, with around €70 million allocated to nearly 375 cooperation projects in higher education, vocational education and training, youth and sport. These initiatives promote digital transformation, curriculum modernisation and closer alignment with the European Education Area.

Support also extends to schools and teachers: more than 1,000 Ukrainian educators participate in eTwinning, collaborating with European peers and accessing professional development opportunities.

From scholarships and textbooks to institutional partnerships, Erasmus+ remains a key instrument of European solidarity, contributing to Ukraine’s resilience, recovery and future integration into the European education community.
